What are the common things between ballroom dancing and martial arts?

Many people learn ballroom dance lessons with joy as it is for fun and for social interaction and exercise. Do you know ballroom dancing and martial arts have some things in common? It might be sounds strange to you! But this is true that couple-based swing dancing and combat-based martial arts training have some things in common. So let’s check out the similarities in both of them:

1. Observance and Resistance: In ballroom dancing, the main aim of the lead is to manage the moves of the partner with giving signals. But synergy-based martial art also includes expressing the moves. The ballroom dancers follow the music. But they both have the same goal. In martial arts, even though the leading goal is to train the partner about the techniques, the ultimate aim is to control the resistant object. But in the real situation of self-defense, the things go combative in the relationship between two partners.  This is the big difference along with the tactics of body control applied by the couples.

2. Body alignment usage: In ballroom dancing, the lead pushes up the follower into a spinning position and while he is doing, the follower goes according to the direction as desired by the lead. The aim of the lead is to use his arms, legs, hips and other parts of his body during the ballroom dancing. On the other hand, if the follower is not comfortable with her position while the lead is pushing with using the rest of the body, the lead won’t get the respond from the follower with full sensitivity.

In martial arts training, the concept is based on direct correlations between the partners. This includes muscle the way of joint lock or work with takedown. This is the most effective technique to get the maximum effort of the partner while training. In martial art, the use of feet, hips, arms and overall body is also there similar to ballroom dancing. This is also tiring, less effective and awkward when failure happens in martial arts.

Leaves no options in both conditions
When the lead feels discomfort in working, the follower will become less sensitive to respond and ultimately, the dance sounds more like a fight. Incorrect gesture is also responsible for step failure which is said to be the evil of ballroom dancing. Hence, this is important for both lead and the follower that they should do their jobs with sensitivity in order to move swiftly and freely.

In conclusion
Working with a new partner in ballroom dancing is just like controlling a dissenting partner in martial arts. In martial arts, with using throws and takedowns, you can affect their balance by locking up their joints and in such a way, you left no option for them to go back to the comfortable position. The rule of gravity and body mechanics is followed in martial arts. When it comes to learn ballroom dance, there is no better option than Ballroom Dance Bloomfield. So join and learn with fun and get lots of exercise benefits.
