How to get started with yoga if you are a beginner?

When it comes to start doing yoga, this is the first and most important decision. Though it is easy to get stuck in this step, but you can go easy with these easy steps to start getting lots of benefits of yoga.

1. Pick any type of yoga: With conducting a little research on your part, you can easily get the perfect physique and mental well-being. Since there are large numbers of yoga classes, it is easy to get stuck if you pick the wrong yoga type which doesn’t suit your well-being and physical fitness. So, take your time in research of yoga style which is suitable for your physical and mental state and which is easy to learn. In particular, vinyasa or hatha yoga is most common exercise for the beginners with basic styles.

2. Find a yoga class: With the help of some online resources, you can easily find excellent yoga classes near your locality. There are various wellness magazines or newspapers you can check to get the listings of yoga classes. Try to pick the yoga class which is located near your office or home. Start with basic level of yoga in the class. If you already go to a gym where yoga training is offered, there is no better option than that. If your mind can’t click with a teacher, you can also go for personal training classes in your city.

3. Try to know about yoga equipments: There are some equipments of yoga necessary in the class. This is no doubt you will bring nothing more than some comfortable and breathable clothes. However, most yoga classes are available with yoga mats that can also be rented to you.

4. Consider some space: Most yoga students lay their yoga mats in front of the room within line and in a loose grid. But you have to know that you and your co-practitioner need extra space to do certain poses. So, this is better not to place your mat directly besides the neighbor’s mat. In the beginning, students have to start with some simple stretching and sitting in cross-legged position with chanting “om” for about three times. There may be meditation or some breathing exercises followed by some warm-up poses. In most of the times, the yoga trainer walks around the students to give some massage.

5. In case you can’t go yoga class: There are lots of excellent yoga books and DVDs are available in which yoga teachers let you know about how to do certain poses of yoga at the comfort of your home. You can start with any book or video for beginners. However, there is no better option than directly going to yoga class and getting the training from a yoga teacher.
6. Dos and Don’ts in yoga class
1. Don’t eat heavy before going to yoga class. Instead, before a few hours of the class, have light meals.
2. Have some water before and after the class but don’t during the class.
3. Don’t wear socks and shoes during the class.
4. If you need any assistance during the class, don’t hesitate to ask the teacher.
5. Before going the class in the first day, try to know about some basic poses for beginners.
6. Tell the teacher if it is your first yoga class.
