Basic Actions & Hips Movement of Bachata Dance

Bachata is a type of Latin dancing which was originated in 1950s in Dominican Republic. Bachata dancing is quite romantic and steps go slow with the music of guitar ballads and lyrics that express despair and love. Bachata has now become very popular in the dance clubs and radio across the world. This is a couple dancing which has simple steps.

The dance frame
Bachata is performed within the hold of basic ballroom dance in which both the leader and follower face each other while dancing. On the right shoulder blade of the follower, the leader holds his hand. The leader also wraps his right arm around the waist of follower or place on her back. How closer the leader and the follower stand, is based on the comfort level of both. Thereafter the leader puts his left hand in the “V” position upside and the follower puts her hand in his hand. They both smoothly wrap their fingers on other hand.

The dance should be done closely in the offset position of both the partners. Their knees and toes can bump if both of them stand facing each other directly. In this way, both of them point among the feet of each other by standing with right foot.

Basic pattern
In the basic pattern of bachata dance lessons Princeton, the three steps and a tap is included. In this pattern, the follower starts from the right foot and the leader starts from the left typically. Both of them begin stepping from the side, step together and then go again to the same side and then they tap their feet. After it, they repeat the same steps again on another side. You can enjoy with basic pattern as the rules are not so strict in bachata dancing. You can either dance side-by-side, forward and back or circular. The step pattern and the rhythm always remain unchanged despite the direction of partners. For example, the steps are – forward, forward, forward, then tap, backward, backward, backward, than tap.

Technique
Like other Latin couple dance styles, the basic technique is common in bachata dancing. You will move your hips with your moves which is an idea of stepping according to Cuban motion. The partners perform shuffling steps in which they push their steps on the floor with going. With stepping, swing the ball of foot around the floor and land it opposite with the heel. If you step with the ball of your foot, your knee is more likely to bend when you take steps with your leg and it tends to drop the hip.

Bachata is a 4/4 dancing in which there are four beats of music in every measure and there are only three changes in weight for every measure because there is a tap on fourth beat.
